UML, CPN-MC to intensify power sharing talks

Chairman KP Sharma Oli andCPN-Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal will hold discussion on sharingpower after the National Assembly election results are announced on Thursday.

“As the date for the formation of the new governmentnears, the two chairmen are under intense pressure to make a power sharingdeal,” a left alliance leader told THT. Oli and Dahal have to decideon president, vice-president, prime minister, speaker, deputy speaker, NAchairperson and vice-chairperson, and the chairperson the
unified party.

According to the constitution, speaker and deputyspeaker of the federal parliament should be from different parties and gender,while chairperson and vice-chairperson of the NA should be from differentgender.

UML leader BishnuRimal said the two parties wouldexpedite power-sharing talks next week. The EC said it would submit results tothe president within a week of the final result of the NA election.

The government has decided to form 15 ministriesthough the constitution allows 25 ministries, including the office of the primeminister.

CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’sPersonal Secretary JokhaBahadurMahara said the two parties were likely to sharethe posts of the prime minister and the speaker.

A task force formed by the left alliance to suggestthe common minimum programme of the new government has stepped up its effortsto finish the assigned task.

It will make an operational action plan prioritisingpolicy and programme on the basis of the left alliance election manifesto.
