Feasibility study of Surkhet int'l airport conducted

A feasibility study ofan international airport in Surkhet in Karnali Province has been carried out.The project that is located at Naulichaur of Bheriganga Rural Municipality inSurkhet covering 36,000 ropanis of land costs approximately Rs 7.41 billion,said SurajKoirala, a consultant company engineer SurajKoirala. 

Detailedproject report would be prepared as per the feasibility report, he said. 

OnTuesday, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikarialongside ministers of the provincial government took a field tour of theproject area. 

Speakingat an event, Minister Adhikari said the government prioritises the project."A foundation stone will be laid soon after preparing its DPR." 

Theproject aims to materialise the drive to have districts outside the Kathmanduvalley to have direct air-connectivity with foreign countries, he said. 

"Airwayis a means for a unity among the people of Humla and Dolpa of the province.Towards that end, all airlines in Kathmandu have been asked to set up stationsin respective airport," he said.
